On Thursday the 3rd of April Apple TV+ dropped the first trailer for its upcoming new film “Fountain of Youth” and it looks like its Indianna Jones meets The Mummy.
The film comes from the critically acclaimed filmmaker Guy Ritchie (Snatch, The Gentlemen, The Man From U.N.C.L.E) and stars John Krasinski & Natalie Portman as estranged siblings on a quest to find, you guessed it, the fountain of youth. Fountain of Youth pays homage to similar adventure and historical exploration flicks before it, with notable similarities with both Indianna Jones and The Mummy two of the best in the genre.
Based on the trailer alone in the search for the Fountain of Youth the siblings will follow clues across the globe and through history whilst fighting against rivals also in search of the fountain. The trailer depicts the characters diving into pyramids, leaping off trains, and fighting in museum libraries, what in the Uncharted-The Mummy-Indianna Jones kinda fever dream film is this?
Despite not getting a theatrical release the film has a stacked cast and strong creative team behind it worth checking out. Plus, Apple TV+ has proven to be a strong home of original content with strong film & TV outings such as; Severance, Ted Lasso, The Gorge, See, and more. This film has potential to be a huge flop that struggles to find its own sense of identity or could be this generation’s Indianna Jones. Whatever the case, I’ll be watching the day it releases, Jim from The Office going pyramid diving for supernatural fountains? SOLD!
Here’s hoping Fountain Of Youth can breathe some fresh air into a genre that’s not seen a whole lot of passion in the last few years.
