The very first Quad Crown Mountain Bike Series set to begin on the Sapphire Coast this weekend has been cancelled.

The series was to be held across four locations, and four stages, with Tathra and Eden in the Sapphire Coast hosting the first leg from August 5 to 7, however the Quad Crown Mountain Bike Series released a statement last night (August 1), notifying that the competition would not go ahead in 2022.

“2022 has posed some challenges – from the pandemic to weather events and everything in between, we’ve never seen a year like it,” the statement on the event’s Facebook page explained.

“With events cancelling around us constantly, we have been resolute in meeting the commitment we have made to both our riders and ourselves – to bring an awesome series of four mountain bike events to those looking for a good time ride over Australia’s newest and favourite trails.

“Over the year we’ve had to make some compromises to the series and unfortunately we’ve found ourselves in the position where further compromise isn’t possible without severely impacting the quality and fabric of our events. We can’t control the weather and have had to make the unfortunate decision to cancel our Sapphire Coast event for 2022.

“The ripple effect of this decision, coupled with the pandemic, means we’ve also made the very difficult decision to cancel the 2022 series in its entirety.”

The Quad Crown Mountain Bike Series is set to return with new dates in 2023 which will be announced soon.

“While it’s incredibly disappointing, we are also a bit excited at what this now means – we’ll be back in 2023.”
