In tragic news, a woman has died and her child’s been airlifted to hospital after a crash involving a motorcycle and a car between Bega and Merimbula over the weekend.
The crash occurred around 1pm on Sunday (October 13) at the intersection of Cherry Lane and the Princes Highway at Wolumla, around 17kms south of Bega.
The rider, a 34-year-old Bega woman, died at the scene while her pillion passenger, her six-year-old son was treated by paramedics for non-life-threatening injuries before being airlifted to Sydney Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.
The 28-year-old female driver of the car was treated for shock before being transported to South East Regional Hospital in Bega for mandatory testing.
The Princes Highway was closed in both directions for several hours after the fatal crash to allow police to establish a crime scene and investigate the circumstances around the crash.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
It’s the second death on our roads in under a week, after a man in his 40’s died in a single vehicle crash near Wyndham on Wednesday (October 9).
