Surfside homeowners call for sand dune action

A Batemans Bay homeowner is calling for immediate action to reinstate sand dunes that have eroded behind a stretch of beachside properties.

Myamba Crescent resident Craig Lyttle and his family were forced to go through a nerve-racking night after a warning was issued for a high tide of 1.8 metres at the northern end of Surfside.

It followed the surf washing his backyard furniture up against the back of his house on Tuesday night and scattering debris across what is left of his backyard.

Luckily the forecast flood level of 1.8 metres didn’t eventuate so the Lyttle’s and their neighbours are dry this morning.

Mr Lyttle said his and neighbouring homes are at serious risk of being inundated by the water.

He said he’s fed up with different levels of government passing the buck on eroding sand dunes.

He claims State Government funding to fix the problem is being spent at a nearby dog beach where there isn’t a problem.

Craig Little and his wife have watched 12 metres of the sand dune disappear over the past decade or so.
