The Canberra Raiders v Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs preseason NRL match at Moruya is officially sold out.
No more tickets will be sold online or at the gate for Sunday’s game at Ack Weyman Oval with gates due to open at 1.40pm on February 12.
Canberra Raiders Communications Manager, Ben Pollock said the Raiders are excited to visit the South Coast.
“It’s fantastic that we can announce the game is sold out, a big thank you to everyone who jumped online and got their tickets,” Pollock said.
“It’s unfortunate for those who missed out but we’re looking forward to seeing everyone who did buy a ticket to come along and see us take on the Bulldogs,” he continued.
“The Raiders have always been a real country club and we have strong ties on the South Coast and we do a lot with Group 16.
“The players are looking forward to coming down on Sunday and meeting all the fans, and they’ll be sticking around after the game to take some photos and sign some autographs and stuff like that.”
Mr Pollock said it will be nice to bring the game to Ack Weyman Oval due to the strong links between the Weyman family and the Raiders.
“Ack’s son Michael made his NRL debut for the Raiders, his brother Tim played lower grade footy here too,” Pollock said.
“Ack himself worked at the club, I used to work with Ack everyday, he was a wonderful man and I know he did a lot of wonderful things for the community down in Moruya and the surrounding regions,” he explained.
“It was planned for just after the bushfires but after certain interruptions, to finally get to play the game at his oval on what he called ‘the hallowed turf’, we’re looking forward to it and it will be a great tribute to Ack and the Weyman family.”
There was a ticket limit of 5,000 which was exhausted on Thursday (February 9) morning however the NRL Pre-Season Challenge Game in Moruya will be televised live on Fox Sports and Kayo for those who missed out.
Eurobodalla Shire Mayor Mat Hatcher said the shire is looking forward to welcoming both NRL teams.
“It’s something that we’re hoping for every couple of years (to host an NRL pre-season match) and we’re working hard for that,” Mayor Hatcher said.
“We’re going to be doing some upgrades to the ground and the lights at Ack Weyman Oval, so well done to the council teams involved with that,” he said.
“These things just don’t happen, a lot of work goes on behind the scenes, to get things like this happening.
“We’re really looking forward to it and I’ll be there on the day.”
Mayor Hatcher said he was thrilled the event was a sellout.
“A lot of the ticket sales have been bought by people outside of the shire which is fantastic that we’re going to have an event outside of our peak season that will draw people to the area and support local business.”
“It’s going to be a cracking good weekend for the shire and Moruya in particular, with the market on Saturday and the footy on Sunday.”
There is no onsite parking although parking is available nearby at Moruya High School, Albert Street Moruya and in the Eurobodalla Council car park on Vulcan Street in Moruya.
There will be two entry gates to the event – the main showground gate on Albert Street and the ‘Pink Gates’ on Vulcan Street.
For anyone travelling through Moruya Sunday afternoon, expect some traffic delays in the region.
Ticket-holders are asked to arrive at the ground well before the main event kicks off at 3:55pm.
