3,632 homes and businesses in the Bega Valley are without electricty this morning (Monday September 2).
That includes 829 homes and businesses in the Bega Central Business District between Rawlinson Street and Bega Street, which lost power around 5:15am today.
While the issue is unknown at this stage, Essential Energy crews are investigating.
43 homes in the Coopers Gully and Stoney Creek area, north of Bega have also been left without power since around 6:20am today.
With unplanned outages now being reported as far north as Bermagui, Cobargo and Wallaga Lake.
A grassfire that started between Bega and Brogo just after 6am today (Monday September 2) may be linked with the unplanned outage.
Fire crews were called to the Snowy Mountains Highway near the Princes Highway at Coopers Gully around 6am today with the blaze extinguished in under an hour.
A Total Fire Ban has been declared for the Shoalhaven today, due to forecast warm and windy conditions which are also being experienced in the Bega Valley, Eurobodalla and Snowy Monaro regions.
Fire Permits are required along the Far South Coast, with the official Fire Danger Period getting underway across the Bega Valley and Eurobodalla yesterday.
Rural Fire Service Inspector Ben Sheppard said the coming days won’t be suitable to burn off, due to high winds in our region and people should check old pile burns to ensure they’re extinguished.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning for Damaging Winds in our region.
Winds averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 100 kilometres an hour are expected until this afternoon.
There’s also a Gale Marine Wind Warning in place along the Batemans and Eden Coast.
