A 50-year-old man remains in custody after allegedly assaulting a police officer following a pursuit in Narooma on Monday night (January 20).

Police were conducting random breath tests on the Princes Highway around 10:30pm when they stopped a Holden Commodore. The driver allegedly fled, leading officers on a pursuit. The vehicle was stopped shortly after on Riverside Drive, where officers arrested the man.

During the arrest, police say the driver resisted and headbutted a senior constable, causing facial injuries and a suspected fractured hand. The officer was taken to Moruya Hospital for treatment.
