Man arrested after allegedly assaulting police in Batemans Bay

A man has been arrested after allegedly seriously assaulting police.

South Coast Police were called to the Princes Highway in Batemans Bay around 4:20pm on June 18, where they allege an intoxicated 62-year-old man assaulted two police officers.

During the arrest, the two male officers from Batemans Bay suffered injuries including cuts and abrasions, with one officer suffering a broken hand.

The arrested man and police were treated for injuries at Batemans Bay Hospital, where the man remained overnight under police guard.

The man was charged with resisting and assaulting police, offensive conduct and refusing to comply with direction and intimidation in Batemans Bay Local Court, where he was formally refused Bail on June 20.

He is due back in court on August 19.

A South Coast Police Spokesperson said one police officer will require ongoing treatment for a broken hand, while the other will seek further treatment for his injuries.
