This week on the iHeart Far South Coast podcast, we sit down with Dalmeny Paralympian Nikki Ayers who is in Paris, preparing for her shot at gold in the mixed double scull rowing event.
Nikki talks about her journey from the South Coast into elite rugby alongside her sister Megan, before a cruel injury brought her rugby dreams crashing down.
Listen to this week’s episode of iHeart Far South Coast featuring the unstoppable Nikki Ayers below.
How did Nikki come into the world of rowing through the gruelling George Bass Surfboat Marathon here on the Far South Coast? Why did she choose rowing? How is she so good at it? And what advice does she have for young Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls on the South Coast?
As ‘Nik’ and her rowing partner Jed Altschwager gear up to try and improve on their 4th in a slightly different rowing event at the Tokyo Games (and Nikki’s first), Nikki’s sister Megan said her family and friends are right behind her, with many travelling over to France to show their support of this incredible woman.
The 2024 Paralympics are on from August 28 until September 8.
