No need to travel to the Bahamas to swim with the pigs.
Far South Coast couple, Geoff and Wendy Alford were taking their new boat out for a fish near Little Island between Batemans Bay and Nelligen when they spotted what appeared to be a feral pig swimming across the Clyde River on Tuesday (June 18).
“We were fishing and it was a bit quiet, so we thought we’d make a move, and off in the distance as we started moving, I thought I saw a large log, as there’s been a lot of flood matter in the river lately,” Sunshine Bay local, Geoff Alford told ARN Bega Bay.
“It appeared to be a dark object that was moving under its own propulsion and as we got closer I thought, ‘that’s a little horse’, but no, it was a massive black pig,” he explained.
“We couldn’t believe it, we did a quick 180, went back, my wife started taking video.”
The large black pig confidently swam from the Batemans Bay to the Nelligen side of the Clyde River, safely making it to shore.
“I couldn’t believe it had swum one of the widest parts of the Clyde, and it was swimming as the water was 12.2 meters deep, so it wasn’t gaining any footholds,” Mr Alford said.
“It got to the opposite side and still had the energy to barge through the thickest part of the bush on that side of the river.”
