Highway reopens after fatal car crash north of Batemans Bay

A man has died following a crash at East Lynne between Batemans Bay and Ulladulla on the NSW Far South Coast.

About 1.30pm yesterday (Thursday 28 November 2024), emergency services were called to the Princes Highway, near Maidens Road, around 1km north of the East Lynne Service Station, following reports of a crash involving a truck and a utility.

The 37-year-old male driver of the ute, died at the scene. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

The male driver of the truck, aged 57, was not injured in the incident but was taken to Batemans Bay Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers attached to South Coast Police District, assisted by specialist officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The crash that resulted in a large fire and the subsequent investigation resulted in the Princes Highway being closed in both directions for more than 15 hours with motorists having to postpone their trips or detour via Braidwood Road and Nerriga Road.

The highway reopened around 4:30am today (Friday 29 November) and traffic conditions have returned to normal.
