Hatcher and O’Neil leading race to be Eurobodalla and Bega Valley mayor

Results are rolling in along the Far South Coast, after Saturday’s Local Government Elections with counting to resume today (Monday September 16).

After weeks of campaigning, candidates in the Eurobodalla and Bega Valley are waiting to see if they’ll sit on their local councils for the next four years and who their next mayors will be.

More than 60,000 people are registered to vote across the Eurobodalla and Bega Valley Shires with almost 40 percent of votes counted as we head into Monday.

Incumbent mayor and ‘Advance Eurobodalla’ independent, Mathew Hatcher holds a strong lead for Eurobodalla mayor with 34% of votes ahead of Independent Phil Constable (18%) and Rob Pollock (16%).

The race for mayor in the Bega Valley is tighter with Labor’s, Helen O’Neil, out in front with 25% of the shire’s vote ahead of Independent Mitchel Naiden (18%), current mayor Russell Fitzpatrick (18%) and former mayor Tony Allen (15%).

In terms of councillor votes, in the Eurobodalla ‘Advance Eurobodalla’ (Group H) are leading the way on 31% from The Independent Group E led by Rob Pollock on 15% and ‘One Eurobodalla’ (Group A) led by Phil Constable on 13%.

In the Bega Valley, ‘Group A’ made up of Independents Mitchel Naiden, David Porter, Peggy Noble, Jason Hetherington and Morgan Eneberg are in front with 30% of the vote.

Ungrouped candidates have a combined total of 28% of the vote which is made up of Russell Fitzparick (9%), Tony Allen (8%), Clair Mudaliar (5%), Phil Dummett (4%).

And the ALP (Group B) led by Helen O’Neil has 24%.

Results will be finalised in early October 2024.
