A couple from Canberra have been arrested after the car they were driving which was allegedly stolen from the ACT, was spotted in the Bega Valley on Monday (June 5).
South Coast Police told East Coast Radio they received information that a vehicle, allegedly stolen from the ACT, was sighted in Bega.
Detective Acting Inspector from the South Coast Police, Justin Marks said a pursuit was initiated before being terminated soon after.
“Officers located the vehicle and directed the driver to pull over, however they allegedly failed to do so, and a pursuit was initiated before being terminated soon after due to safety concerns,” Acting Inspector Marks said.
The black Toyota Yaris – was later found abandoned on Toallo Street, Pambula, with a 42-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman arrested a short distance away.
The pair were taken to Bega Police Station where they were both charged.
The man was charged with illegal use of a conveyance, goods in custody suspected of being stolen, custody of a knife in a public place, possession of an offensive weapon, drive whilst unlicenced/disqualified, and revocation of parole first instance warrant.
The woman was charged with be carried in a conveyance, goods in custody suspected of being stolen, possess prohibited drug, and possess prohibited weapon.
Both were refused bail to appear in Batemans Bay Local Court today (Tuesday 6 June 2023).
