A body, believed to be that of a missing man from the ACT, has been located over the weekend.
20-year-old, Hang Xue, was last seen on Lennards Island in the Beowa National Park, Eden, about 12.30pm on Friday (26 April 2024).
When he could not be located or contacted, officers attached to South Coast Police District were notified and commenced enquiries into his whereabouts.
Police and family held concerns for Xue’s welfare as he could not swim.
He was also minimally dressed to survive the elements wearing just a white t-shirt, a white puffer jacket with two black stripes down the front, black jeans and black slides.
Marine Rescue NSW Inspector, Glenn Sullivan, said volunteers from Eden and Merimbula resumed a parallel line search at 9am on Saturday in what were ‘favourable conditions’.
“MB 31 and XRAY 30 conducted a parallel line searches waters off Lennards Island as designated by Marine Area Command.”
Following extensive inquires including a multi-agency search operation with assistance of Marine Area Command, Marine Rescue, Surf Lifesaving NSW, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and SES, the body of a man was located 1.8 nautical miles north-east of Leonards Island, about 10.20am on Saturday (27 April 2024).
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
Police would like to thank the public and media for their assistance.
