Paul Mescal and Denzel Washington gear up for an intense arena battle in the first trailer for Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II. The historical drama, hitting theatres on November 22, stars Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington, Joseph Quinn, and Connie Nielsen.
A sequel to Scott’s 2000 Oscar-winning Gladiator, this film is set several decades later in ancient Rome. It follows Lucius (Mescal), the grandson of Marcus Aurelius and son of Emperor Commodus. Now residing in Numidia, Lucius ends up in slavery after an invasion led by Roman general Marcus Acacius. Inspired by Maximus (portrayed by Russell Crowe in the original), Lucius becomes a gladiator.
The trailer features gripping scenes of gladiator duels and Pedro Pascal as Marcus Acacius. Directed by Scott and written by David Scarpa, Gladiator II promises to continue the legacy of its predecessor. Scott, Lucy Fisher, David Franzoni, Michael Pruss, and Douglas Wick serve as producers.
